Belgian Flag Cake

Hi guys!

It is the first day of UEFA EURO 2016. Belgium will play its first game next Monday against Italy. Will we win? I hope so 🙂

Last year, this was my cake for the 21st of July. But I thought it would be great to celebrate our Belgian Red Devils as well so that’s why I’m sharing it again with you today! Easy to make and very easy to enjoy 😉 It can be a perfect activity with the kids!

What do we need:


  • 4,5 dl whole milk / full cream
  • 450 g self-raising flour
  • 1 bag vanilla sugar (+- 8 g)
  • a pinch of salt
  • 230 g butter
  • 380 g sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • juice from 1/2 lemon
  • baking paper
  • square baking tin


  • 250 g cream cheese
  • 300 ml cream
  • powder sugar (you can add as much as you like, it’s all about how you like it :))
  • 150 g raspberries
  • 150 g blackberries
  • 150 g cape gooseberries

How to:

Preheat the oven at 180 degrees centigrade.
Place some baking paper in your baking tin.

Mix together the butter and the sugar (both kinds) until it becomes a smooth mixture.
Add the eggs.
Put the flour and the salt in it and mix well together.

Pour in the milk and the lemon juice.

Mix it all together until the batter is perfectly smooth.

Bake for about 30 minutes.
Let it cool a bit in the oven, then on a rack.
You can remove it from the baking tin if it’s almost completely cold.

Meanwhile we can make the topping.

Beat the cream. Add the cream cheese and the powder sugar.
Beat it until it’s completely whipped.

Put the topping on the cake. You can have it anyway you like it: Thick, thin, wavy, smooth, …
Add the fruit in the shape of the Belgian Flag and you’re done!

Call your friends and family to celebrate our Red Devils!
Or you can share it with your colleagues, they won’t complain 😉
