2015 in review

Hi guys!

Happy New Year to you all! I hope you had a wonderful evening with family or friends and a lot of happiness :) I wish you all the best for 2016 and make it YOUR year! Do the things you’ve always wanted to do, travel around the world, experience love and happiness and enjoy every moment. <3

Let’s go back to see what 2015 looked like for Sarah’s Little Kitchen :) I compared 2015 with 2014 and besides growing numbers (thank you guys so much!), not that much has changed :p

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for my blog.

Your 2015 year in blogging

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 11,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Hooray! We have a Bodum store in Brussels

Hi guys!

I’ve got some GREAT news! Belgium now has its own official Bodum store! Where? In Brussels of course… I hope there will be one in Antwerp too some day (It’s easier for me to get there) but I’m super excited we finally have one in Belgium :)

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to join the official opening of the store. Wow. Such a beautiful store! The building alone is so gorgeous! And what’s inside is even better ;)

bodum store brussels

I’ve been a fan of Bodum ever since I can remember. I really love their designs. But it can be a little pricy… I know, good kwality costs money. BUT Bodum has given the students and I-don’t-want-to-spend-that-much-money-on-gorgeous-items people (Do you really exist?) the ultimate solution: Bodum Basics!

The Bodum Basics Collection

Bodum Basics: WoodBodum BasicsBodum Basics at the Bodum Store in Brussels

Bodum Basics is the lower price collection, exclusively available in the store. I heard someone saying it reminded her of IKEA but I think you can still very clearly see it’s Bodum. But at a lower cost :) Happy happy happy!

The first thing you’ll notice when entering the store is the foodbar. Yes, that’s true, Bodum Brussels has its own little foodbar in the store. Pretty cool right! So you can enjoy some drinks and delicious foods while looking for new items to ad to your kitchen ;) A true win-win situation!

I knew Bodum had a lot of products but I honestly didn’t know they had this much :O The store kept going on with more and more and more awesome things I wanted to take home! Seriously, I could have bought the whole strore! (If my budget had allowed me to…)

But the experience in the store alone wasn’t enough, our hosts must have thought because we got an amazing goodiebag to go home with! Now I can enjoy Bodum at home too :)

Do I love Bodum? YES!
Do I love the new store? YEES!
Would I ever go back? ABSOLUTELY!

You might have heard me coming but if you’re ever in Brussels, please stop by the store. Grab some food and enjoy this beautiful store and its beautiful Bodum collection!

I’m going to get myself some Bodum tea and drink it in my Bodum cup ;)
Have a delicious day <3

Christmas is coming! Thoughts & Memories

Hi guys!

Am I too early with my Christmas excitements? It’s November already you know…
Stores have their Christmas stuff for sale since the end of September here so I’m actually on the late side xD

Those who know me a little know I’m an absolute Christmas freak! I have to keep myself from running to the store and buy myself some Christmas decorations. Or a Christmas tree. I basically have to keep myself from taking over the whole shop!

At our family we always make a whishlist and then pick names. We then receive that persons whislist and have to buy something within a certain budget. We’ve picked names last weekend and I’m always very excited to see who will be my person I can shop for :) No, I won’t tell you who it is because that person might read this post ;)

Me and my christmas hat

Normally, my whislist is always – I repeat – always ready by August. I like to come prepared ;) But this year was a little different since my whishlist was only ready the day of our little party. Oops… I think I broke a personal record by being so late with it xD

Back to our Christmas habits. I LOVE shopping for Christmas! Choosing something from the whishlist, buying it, wrapping it and then when the day finally arrives, giving it :) BUT we don’t just give our presents. Oh no! We always play a game. Sometimes a card game, sometimes a quick word game. The winner either gets a present or gives a present (we decide that before the game;) ) Such a happy time! What about your Christmas habits? I’d love to know all about them!

Christmas never comes too early for me! But it does fly away way too fast. Those wonderful days filled with joy, laughter and family are the best days of the whole year!

So, tell me all about your Christmas memories :)

Beer tasting at Hop & Co

Hi guys!

It was time to take my Dad with me again. Why? Because I was invited for a beer tasting at Hop & Co! And beer calls for Dad as my sidekick ;)

Hop & Co is the company of two super nice people. They’re so sweet and completely commited to their beers. And they have lots of it!

bierkast

Nope, that’s not even the whole collection because my frame was too small to fit everything :p

Hop & Co selected 6 beers for us:

Taras Boulba

Taras Boulba

The name for this beer came from an old tale. Brewery De Zenne translated that story to the situation in Belgium, between the Flemish and the Walloon. There was a Flemish father who went to battle against Walonia with his two sons. One of his sons was in love with a Walloon girl. He helped here during this battle. The father found out about it and killed the son. This tale is also shown on the label of the beer. We see the furious father with a can of beer, ready to throw it at his son.

This blond beer has a very strong hop taste with a little hint of grapefruit. It has 4,5% alcohol.

Femme Fatale

Femme FataleThis blond lady is part of a whole family:
Femme Fatale married Bon Homme. After a few years they had a baby: Enfant Terrible. There is of course a grandma, Ma mere speciale. There was a young lady, looking to stir things up: Cuvée Mam’Zelle. Luckily there was Cuvée Jeun’Homme who came and won the young ladies’ heart.Every community has its nun: Cuvée Soeur’Ise. Fils a Papa is the youngest son of the family. The latest addition to the family is Merci Maman. This beer was brewed dedicated to the women who helped during the first world war. The brewery gives 10% of their sales to projects who support women who are still in that position such as the women in Iraq.

Femme Fatale is a beer with 6,5% alcohol. It’s still a beer with a lot of hop but the hop is softened with a touch of lemon.

Uitzet

UitzetThis blond beer with 6,8% alcohol is a lot less hop-isch than the other two. It still has a little bit of hop in it, but it’s more subtile. It has the freshness of fruit in it.

The legend of its name comes from a fire. There was a fire going on in the brewery. The villagers came to warn the brewer but he told them not to put out the fire but to take care of the beers first. In Dutch: uitzetten => uitzet :)

Bon Sécours Ambrée

Bon SécoursThis is a very special beer, in a very special bottle AND a very special crate. This beer still has an old bottle with this beautiful, old cap :) I love bottles with that!

The brewery didn’t love the cap that much a while ago… There was a problem with the cap and the brewery had to take all of his beer out of sale! The brewery was almost bankrupt by this incident but they survived :)

KistThe beer has 8% alcohol. It has its special taste from the different caramelized malts and the refermentation in the bottle. This beer is not for everyone, given that special malt taste.

Delirium Nocturnum

Delirium NocturnumThis brown beer with 8,5% alcohol has some chocolate in it! The beer has caramel, chocolate and mokka in it. First you get that caramel, then comes the mokka and the dark chocolate is the last taste you’ll get. It has that typical dark chocolate stickyness to your palate.

Gulden Spoor Quadruppel

Gulden Spoor QuadruppelThis brown beer was our last one and has the highest alcohol percentage: 9%. It has exotic fruts in its aroma.

We also had the opportunity to try some other beers they had in stock. My dad left the choice to me. Sooooo I picked the one with the most beautiful label of them all… ;)

Hofnar

HofnarI have no history about this one but it was the best beer I’ve tasted that day :) Great choice, Sarah! This amber colored beer has a bitter taste because of the whiskey malt that was used. But I think the bitterness was very well balanced :)
My dad loved it too. It seems we have quite a similar taste in beers… :p Oh well, what can I say? The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree?

My Dad and I really enjoyed ourselves at Hop & Co. We’ve tasted some great beers and my Dad bought some beer as well :) Hofnar and Uitzet really were our favorites! I didn’t like that Bon Sécours Ambrée that much and I know it’s because of that caramelized malt. I can’t tell you what beer you should try because every taste is different and there were people who absolutely loved that Bon Sécours Ambrée and disliked the ones I favorited. My one piece of advice is this: if you’re somewhere new and they have regional beers, do taste them! You never know what liquid pearls you’ll find :)

Hop & Co doesn’t only sell beer, they also make awesome gift packages with beer :) I would recommend them to everyone living in the area of Antwerp, Belgium. I’m sorry my dear foreign readers, they don’t ship :(

I hope you guys enjoyed reading this post and the history of some f these beers :)
Have a delicious day <3

The complete Stella Artois experience

Hi guys!

Last week I took my dad to Stella Artois. We were invited there to get the complete Stella Artois experience!
What is the complete Stella Artois experience?
It is a brewery visit + a workshop pouring beer, following the nine steps of Stella Artois.

We had a blast!

Our Stella Artois experience started in the brewery. We had a fantastic guide who told us the history of Stella Artois and showed us around in the brewery. Here’s a quick overview:

Café du Sablon

Hi guys!

I had a great meeting with Anita from The Brusselsprouts yesterday!
I had won their Barù contest and headed to Brussels to pick it up.
She proposed to meet me at Café du Sablon so it was thanks to her that I can now show you this awesome place!

The whole day was just perfect! Those of you who follow my Instagram already knew what a sunny day it was:

SunnyDay

So, armed with sandals and a book, I headed to Brussels!

The minute I walked in, Café du Sablon had won my heart!
The place is so cool! All these different chairs, tables, people, …

The counter is filled with sweets and the menu has so many delicious coffees, teas and other drinks!

CdS05

I tried the Apple Crumble and the Homemade Iced Tea with apricots, orange, lemon, violet, mint & honey!

CdS16

I’ve seen so many delicious coffees passing by! With lots of whipped cream and toppings. If you’re into coffee and you like it sweet, Café du Sablon is your place to be! I don’t drink coffee myself and I didn’t dare to go to people to ask if I could take a picture of their coffees so I can’t show you how they look like… Sorry!
BUT you’ll have to see for yourself ;)

I was a bit too early for my meeting with Anita so I installed myself at the window with my food and my book. It was the perfect spot!
I normally don’t really like to go to a place all by myself but Café du Sablon is the perfect place to enjoy some drinks (or sweets & snacks) and a good book. There are a lot of people who sat there, alone with their books or lapops. Or two or more friends who enjoyed each others company and a coffee. It was nice to see :)

Check out my spot at the window:

CdS11

CdS08

There were also a lot of people who stopped by to buy some things on the go. So no problems for those take-out lovers! ;)

If you visit Brussels, I hope you’ll get to discover Café du Sablon and the beautiful Sablon neighbourhoud!
