Funfetti Unicorn Cupcakes

Hi guys!

I’ve been wanting to make something unicorn themed for a while. I’ve seen so many gorgeous Unicorn Cakes coming along on Instagram and Pinterest… Before taking on an adventure like that, I wanted to try something smaller. As in cupcakes smaller.

You guys know I love Cupcake Jemma from the Crumbs and Doillies in London, right? Well, she has recently made some Unicorn Cupcakes! My recipe of today is inspired on her video and techniques.

Who doesn’t love unicorns? I have a colleague who really really loves them and so I thought it would be fun to bring these to work so she can have her own little Unicorn Cupcake ^^.

I used some funfetti to put in the batter so these Unicorn Cupcakes become even more sparkly and fun 😉

What we need for about 9 magical Funfetti Unicorn Cupcakes:


  • 220 g butter at room temperaturen
  • 220 g caster Sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 220 g self-raising flour
  • Cupcake wrappers
  • Ice cream scoop
  • 2 doses of Dr.Oetker funfetti (they come in a box with 4 different kinds of decoration)
  • Cupcake pan

Frosting & Unicorn

  • 250 g butter at room temperature
  • 500 g powder sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of milk
  • 3 colors of food coloring (I’ve used pink, blue and yellow)
  • White Fondant
  • Gold coloring powder
  • Small cup
  • Water
  • Piping bag
  • Piping tip (I’ve used a star shaped tip)
  • Edible glitter fust
  • Small painting brush

How to:


  1. Preheat the oven at 180°C
  2. Beat together butter and sugar
  3. Add the eggs and mix until combined
  4. Sift the flour and mix until fully combined. Don’t overmix
  5. Add the funfetti. Use a spatula to blend it in the batter
  6. Line the Cupcake pan with the wrappers
  7. Use the ice cream scoop (of 2 spoons) to evenly fill the wrappers for 3/4th
  8. Bake for about 20 minutes
  9. Gently push with your finger on the top of the cupcakes. If they go back to their original shape, they’re done
  10. Let them cool completely before decorating of frosting


  1. Beat the butter with half of the powder sugar
  2. Add the other half of the powder sugar
  3. Add 3 tablespoons of milk and mix until fully combined
  4. Divide into 3 separate bowls
  5. Give the frosting a color of your choice (I’ve used pink, blue and yellow)
  6. Take a piece of wrapping foil
  7. Make a line with the first color, next to it a line with the second and then a line with the third
  8. Gently fold/roll the foil into a sausage
  9. Put the piping tip in the piping bag
  10. Put the sausage in the piping bag
  11. Frost
  12. Sprinkle some glitter on the Cupcakes


  1. Knead some white fondant
  2. Roll a piece between your hands, making a tip at one end. Do this one more time
  3. Place the 2 piece of fondant together and gently twist until the horn is big enough. Cut off any excess fondant
  4. Put the horns on a toothpick
  5. Put a tiny bit of gold powder in a small cup and add a tiny bit of water
  6. Paint the horns gold
  7. Roll out some fondant
  8. Cut out 2 holes per cupcake with the back of a piping tip
  9. Gently press the ends together to make the ears
  10. Place the horns in the middle of the cupcakes and place the ears next to it
