Last Saturday, the Boyfriend and I went to Rotterdam for dinner at Roots. It’s part of Hilton so it had to be fancy. It was. I loved the interior; marble tables, white chairs and golden decorations on the side. Marvellous! You math y think it makes the restaurant cold but it doesn’t. When it’s dark outside, they dim the lights so the red, white and orange lights give a warm and cosy glow to the room. Add a candle to that and you’re having a romantic dinner! If you brought a date, that is 😉
We’ve said it before: Fall is here, so we were right on time to try the new Fall menu. Fish, veggie or meat, there’s a choice for everyone. We went for the Salmon and Chef’s Special as starters. The Chef’s Special is a daily changing dish. On Saturday it was beef. It was so good! My Salmon was great too. And a pleasure for the eye as well.
Whenever I find Duck on the menu, I get it. So when I saw this yummy meat on the menu, I didn’t even look at the other options. Well, I did to see what choices there where so I could tell you they have plenty of choice, but otherwise I wouldn’t have 😉 The Boyfriend went for the Beef Rump Steak. I loved the combinations Roots’ chef made. M Duck was served with chicory, red cabbage, a cinnamon pear and mashed potatoes with almonds. Absolutely delicious! The Boyfriend was very pleased with his dish as well but he liked the starter a bit more since that meat really melted on your tongue.
The Fall menu is a three-course menu so I obviously didn’t mind choosing a dessert. After careful consideration, the Apple dessert was selected. The Boyfriend went for Cheesecake which was a succes. My Apple dessert was the perfect ending of our lovely night. It had different textures and falvors. Apple – of course -, vanilla, caramel, cinamon and biscoff if my tastebuds are correct. Even if I’m mistaken, it’s still so good!
So dinner at a hotel belonging to Hilton. That must be expensive, right? No it’s not. The Fall menu only costs €37! Don’t feel like eating three courses? No problem, choose a la carte. The prices are very democratic and you get high quality in return. Roots mainly uses local and fresh products.
The staff is so friendly! They even allowed me to walk up to the kitchen – which is an open one, very fun to watch! – to make pictures with the chef. I have to admit it was a bit awkward doing so. I’ve never ever done that before. Have you?
I actually learned something besides having a yummy dinner. Restaurants that belong to hotels aren’t necessarily ‘to be avoided’. We usually want to find a unique, hipster-like, Instagram worthy place to have our breakfast, lunch or dinner when being in a new city. But why? Roots has a fantastic interior so that’s definitely Instagram worthy 😉 Hilton is considered to be expensive, but Roots is not. So I’ve learned to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, a restaurant by its group. I guess I’m trying to say if you see a restaurant you like, just go for it. Doesn’t matter who it belongs to.
I promised you something didn’t I?
W I N W I N W I N !
